MDC’s Koubek Center To Host Live National Public Radio Immigration Forum

National Public Radio’s “Long Way Home: Immigrant Stories of Old Roots And New Roots” series will broadcast live from the Koubek Center at Miami Dade College, 2705 SW 3 St., on Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.

The program is part of a NPR series called “Michel Martin, Going There.” The event is presented in collaboration with Miami NPR member station WLRN.

Martin is focusing on Miami, a city that has been transformed by modern immigration. The broadcast aims to spotlight accounts of diaspora alongside a variety of artists who share stories of their own journeys in a live, on-stage conversation.

“We are taking the studio to the streets to where the story really is,” Martin said. “We thought Miami was the place to talk about immigration.”

Panelists will include: actor Diane Guerrero from the show Orange Is The New Black, poet Richard Blanco author of For All Of Us, One Today and reggae musician Etana. They will discuss the challenges and victories they have encountered along the way and how their cultural legacies have influenced their approach to life and success.

Admissions is open to everyone and the cost of general tickets is $10. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit web.ovationtix.com/trs/pe.c/9976375
