Wolfson Campus Student Named 2019 Newman Civic Fellow

Fiorenza Herrera Diaz has been named the Campus Connect 2019 Newman Civic Fellow for Miami Dade College.

The Newman Civic Fellowship is awarded to student leaders that have created a lasting impact at any one of Campus Connect’s partnering institutions by showing a commitment to tackling societal issues on campus.

“I feel honored by this recognition and the community of scholars I will join thanks to this award,” Diaz said.“I’m looking forward to collaborating with the other fellows from across the country on projects to improve our communities.”

Diaz, 19, who is majoring in economics, is a sophomore in the Honors College at Wolfson Campus. She will begin the fellowship this upcoming fall semester. During the fellowship, Diaz will receive access to mentorship, training and funding to further work on being an activist.

She worked as an Andrew Goodman Vote Everywhere Ambassador, where she organized various voter registration and education activities and helped North and Kendall Campus become official early voting sites during the 2018 midterm election season. Diaz currently serves as president of the Changemaking Ambassador Council and Financial Literacy Club.
