The Combat Hippies To Present Spoken Word Performance

MDC Live Arts will present a spoken word theatrical piece entitled AMAL at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium, 2901 W. Flagler St., on March 29-30 at 8 p.m.

AMAL, which means “wish” in Arabic, will focus on the impact of war for soldiers and civilians in Puerto Rican culture. It is written and performed by The Combat Hippies, a group of military veterans who use art to inspire others.

Teo Castellanos, noted for his work in various film, television and theatre productions, directed and developed the performance. He is a recipient of the Knight Arts Challenge People’s Choice Award as well as the State of Florida Individual Artist Fellowship.

There will be original music from Miami DJ, Brimstone 127 and live percussion from The Combat Hippies.

Tickets are available to the general public for $25 at mdclivearts.org/shows/the-combat-hippies-amal. The show is free for MDC students. Faculty and staff pay $10.
