Manolo Barco, 45, is entering his twelth year as media adviser to Miami Dade College’s student newspaper. Barco has worked as a criminal justice reporter at the Dallas Morning News in Texas and as a staff writer at the Miami Herald. His work has also appeared on the sports pages of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. A graduate of Florida International University and Miami Dade College’s North Campus, Barco served as editor-in-chief of the now-defunct Falcon Times in 1994.

 

Aracelia Diez

Aracelia Diez, 35, serves as the student media assistant for The Reporter training students in design and assisting with website maintenance. Diez has an associate in science degree in graphic design technology from Miami Dade College and a bachelor of fine arts in graphic design from Florida Atlantic University. While at MDC, she served as art director for The Reporter during the 2013 – 2014 school year. She aspires to be part of an editorial design team or printing studio.

Christian Ortega, 21, is a mass communications and journalism major at Kendall Campus. Ortega, who graduated from Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in 2014, will serve as editor-in-chief and sports editor for The Reporter during the 2018-2019 school year. He aspires to be a sports journalist.

Katherine Wallace-Fernandez, 20, is an English major at Kendall Campus. Wallace-Fernandez, who graduated from Miami Palmetto Senior High School in 2016, will serve as a managing editor, briefing editor and social media director for The Reporter during the 2018-2019 school year. She aspires to be a writer.

Corbin Bolies, 19, is a journalism major at Wolfson Campus. Bolies, who attended Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School, will serve as A&E editor for The Reporter during the 2018-2019 school year. He aims to be a political correspondent for The New York Times.

Teresa Schuster, 15, is a dual enrollment student at Kendall Campus majoring in political science. Schuster, who is homeschooled, will serve as forum editor of The Reporter during the 2018-2019 school year. She aspires to work in the political arena.

Valentina Gonzalez, 20, is a mass communications/journalism major at Wolfson Campus. Gonzalez, who graduated from Asociacion Colegio Granadino at Manizales, Colombia in 2016, will serve as Wolfson Campus Bureau Chief of The Reporter during the 2018-2019 school year. She aspires to become a broadcast journalist.
