Former Reporter sports writer, Amanda Aracena, has landed an internship at CBS in Washington, D.C. this summer.

Aracena, currently a 21-year-old University of Florida student, will work alongside CBS News national correspondent Dan Raviv in the nation’s capital.

Her work will be heard regularly on the CBS radio network and TV reports.  Her internship with the network will consist of going to events around Washington D.C. covering the presidential campaign process, editing film and recording audio for Raviv.

Aracena got her taste for journalism at Miami Dade College. Before transferring to UF, Aracena was a sports writer for The Reporter covering volleyball and baseball. She received the Best Sports Writing award in 2014 from the Florida College System Publications Association for a feature she wrote about an MDC baseball player who returned to the ballfield after having heart surgery.

In Gainesville, Aracena has gotten closer to her goal of working as a White House correspondent. She participates at UF’s broadcast stations on campus, reporting and editing for the Spanish-language Noticias program and UF’s Radio Reading Service. She goes to school full time, works three jobs and models.

“UF has offered me a lot of opportunities to grow as a reporter and a person,” Aracena said. “This internship is a stepping stone to getting into the White House.”
