Reliving The Glory Days
Sex is a major driving force in life, and it is the primary driving force behind the new comedyHall Pass starring Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis.
The movie is the latest comedy from veteran filmmakers the Farrelly brother’s, who brought us such comedic classics as Dumb and Dumber, There’s Something About Mary and Me, Myself & Irene. While the brothers started off strong with these smash hits, their latest efforts have been lackluster at best.
Their newest production, Hall Pass, features a hard-to-believe premise where a couple a buddies manage to get a “hall pass” or one week off from marriage with which they are expected to get all their sexual frustrations out.
Their wives only agree to the pass expecting their husbands to come crawling back to them without touching a single woman, but it doesn’t work out quite as expected.
The film started out rather slow and featured rather stale jokes. It wasn’t until almost mid-film that things actually started to get funny. Notably, a scene where the buddies try some pot brownies with the hopes that it will loosen them up and help them meet women. Boy, were they wrong.
Overall, it was a decent film. I’m not a big fan of Wilson, so he really wasn’t able to disappoint as I wasn’t expecting much from him anyway. Sudeikis on the other hand, was quite funny. Also, a cameo by Richard Jenkins added to the humor as we waited nearly the whole movie to learn who the mysterious Coakley was.
If you’re looking for a mildly humorous escape from reality, Hall Pass may be right up your alley.
