Professor Marie Etienne Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

The National Organization for the Advancement of Haitians awarded Medical Campus nursing professor Marie Etienne a Lifetime Achievement Award at a gala in New York on April 22.

The award recognizes Etienne for her humanitarian work such as her assistance in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti and as a professional.

“Getting an award means that one recognizes that you went above and beyond to serve the people,” Etienne said. “As a professor, this award serves as a testimony to my students that tells them that they can do it too.”

Etienne has been working at Miami Dade College for 15 years. She has received various recognition for her work in the nursing profession and to society, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross’ Florence Nightingale Medal in 2013.

She hopes her work inspires people to help their community.

“If you can make someone smile; it can change someone’s life, why not do it,” Etienne said.
