NBC 6 reporter, Melissa Adan, will speak at the 2016 Miami Dade College Summer Journalism Speaker Series at 1:30 p.m. in Room R-402 on July 25, 2016 at the College’s Kendall Campus.
Adan, who served as the Kendall Campus Bureau Chief for The Reporter in 2011 where she worked as a print news writer and video journalist, is currently a general assignment reporter for NBC 6.
“It’s a great honor,” Adan said about her scheduled appearance at the MDC Summer Journalism Speaker Series. “I attended the speaker series when I was a student at Miami Dade College actively. It’s a fantastic opportunity.”
Before joining NBC 6 this past June, Adan was a general assignment reporter and weekend evening news anchor at the CBS affiliate in Lubbock, TX.
Adan covered a wide-range of topics in West Texas, from the death of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia to the exoneration of Timothy Cole, the first person in Texas cleared of a crime after his death.
Earlier this year, Adan went to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and El Paso, TX to cover Pope Francis’ visit to the Texas/Mexico border.
Still scheduled to participate in the MDC Journalism Speaker Series later this summer are Washington Post graphics editor, Lazaro Gamio, and El Nuevo Herald reporter, Sergio Cándido. All of the speakers served as editors for the Miami Dade College student newspapers in the past six years.
The MDC Journalism Speaker Series was launched in February 2008 to create an exchange and learning opportunity for students interested in pursuing careers in journalism. To date, 53 journalists have participated in the series.
Each program includes a presentation by the journalists and a 15-minute question and answer session. All presentations are free and open to the public.
