Miami Dade College To Host First-Ever Student Writers Conference

The MDC Student Writers Conference will take place on June 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Blackboard Collaborate to help aspiring writers improve their craft.

The conference—hosted by faculty members from the Miami Dade College English Language and Communication department—will consist of three discussions and six workshops in a variety of creative writing genres such poetry, graphic novels, fiction and screenwriting.

“The benefit of the conference is to discuss creative writing in all its forms and to improve upon the craft,”  said Omar Figueras, an English professor at Eduardo J. Padrón Campus who is coordinating the conference.

Three guest speakers—poet Richard Blanco, program director for The Humanities Edge Grant Ana Menéndez and writer Lynne Barrett—are scheduled to attend.

The event, sponsored by The Humanities Edge Grant, is free and open to the public.
