MDC MOAD To Host Poet Richard Blanco

Miami Dade College’s Museum of Art and Design will present Cuban American poet Richard Blanco in Poetry Along the Bay aboard the Miami Lady, an Island Queen cruise ship, on April 27. The ship, located at the Bayside Marketplace, 401 Biscayne Blvd., will board at 7 p.m. and leave the dock at 7:30 p.m.

Blanco’s poetry reading will focus on the author’s works that center around living in Miami and how Miami inspires cultural identity.

“This is a special opportunity to hear one of America’s finest poets, all while on a relaxing cruise around Biscayne Bay,” said Scott Smith, marketing and membership coordinator for MDC MOAD.

Blanco has written poems, poetry collections and memoirs. He was selected as a Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow and read his poem One Today at former President Barack Obama’s second presidential inauguration in 2013.

The reading is part of MDC MOAD’s Living Together series, which focuses on performances and films centered on social, political and cultural issues.

Tickets are available on brownpapertickets.com/event/3200460 and are $15 for general admission, $10 for MDC employees and $5 general students with ID. Tickets are free to MDC students with RSVP and ID.
