Lady Sharks Head Volleyball Coach Wins Coach Of The Year

After a near-perfect season, the Lady Sharks head volleyball coach Origenes “Kiko” Benoit was named the 2021 two-year college Northeast/Southeast Region Coach of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on June 9.

The Lady Sharks concluded this past season with a 26-1 record and a third-place finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association National Tournament.

“It feels good to be recognized, but I wouldn’t have been able to do this without the help of my assistant coaches and my athletes,” Benoit said. “Even though I’m receiving the award, I’m representing all of them.”

This is his fifth AVCA Region Coach of the Year honor. He previously won awards in 2005, 2009, 2014 and 2017.

Benoit has been working with the Lady Sharks since 1995 as an assistant coach. He became the team’s head coach in 2005.
