Jazz Listening Tour At Eduardo J. Padrón Campus

Jason Furman, a humanities professor at Miami Dade College, will host a discussion entitled Where Did Jazz Come From?: Hands-on Listening Tour of Music from the Diaspora on Feb. 25 at Eduardo J. Padrón Campus, 627 S.W. 27th Ave., at 11:30 a.m. in Room 3103.

The lecture will focus on musical instruments that were prominent during the African Diaspora and laid the groundwork for jazz music today.

Furman, who is also a percussionist and drummer, has recorded music with the likes of Diane Reeves and Debbie Gibson. He also plays drums for The Headliners, a wedding band based in South Florida.

The listening tour aims to start a conversation about the history of jazz in honor of Black History Month, which runs through February.

It’s free and open to the public.
