Hialeah Campus Empowers Students Through Literary Discussions

Adjunct professor and academic advisor Marie Theodore-Pharel will join authors Michelle J. Fievre and G. Winston James on a panel discussion at the Hialeah Campus, 1780 W. 49th St. on Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. in Room 2102.

Professor Ivonne Lamazares’ English class as well as professor Victor Calderin’s creative writing class will attend to explore some of the works they have read by these authors.

The event has been incorporated to the Miami Book Fair schedule as well as part of the MDC Empowered workshop series for students at the campus that focus on empathy and problem-solving.

It’s a priority at our campus for us to create opportunities for our students to see themselves as changemakers and sharpen their skills to act as changemakers in their communities,” said Kimberly Tupy, the director of the Student Life Department at Hialeah Campus. “For this reason, we plan activities around leadership, teamwork, empathy and problem-solving, so that these traits become more than just ‘words’ to students, but rather are tangible values practiced. Having examples of these values, teaches.”

The event is free and open to the public.
