Former Reporter Editor Hired At Miami Herald

Monique O. Madan, who served as editor-in-chief of The Reporter during its inaugural year in 2010, has been hired as a full-time reporter at the Miami Herald.

Madan, 22, is covering Coral Gables and Doral. She started her new position on August 18.

This past summer, she interned at The New York Times on the metro desk. The previous summer she interned at The Dallas Morning News, working in the criminal justice cluster.

Madan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from Emerson College in May. While in Boston, she worked at the Boston Herald and part-time at The Boston Globe.

Before moving to Boston, Madan served as a part-time breaking news reporter for the Miami Herald from August 2009 until September 2012. She also worked as a web producer for the Herald and El Nuevo Herald.

In January of 2012, Madan participated in The New York Times Student Journalism Institute in Tucson, Arizona. She was one of 23 students selected for the program during a national search.  

At The Reporter, Madan served as editor-in-chief of The Reporter during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 school year’s. She won six Florida College System Activities Association awards during her tenure at the paper including first-place honors in: news Story, feature story and the editorial writing category.  

“If it wasn’t for The Reporter and God, I wouldn’t have achieved what I have today,” Madan said.
