Anadaniela Garcia, who served as the Art Director for The Reporter this past year, has landed a full-time job with The Forum Publishing Group, which is owned by the Sun Sentinel.
Garcia, 21, started in her new position on May 4. She will design and layout pages for newspapers and magazines connected with The Forum Publishing Group and serve as a copy editor.
The organization puts out 32 community newspapers from northern Palm Beach to Miami-Dade County. Some of the publications that Garcia will be working on include, Young@Heart, which specializes on the elderly, the Boynton Beach Forum and Live Wellington.
During her two years at The Reporter, Garcia went from junior designer to Art Director. Last October, the Florida College System Publications Association awarded her a first-place award in design. Garcia is in contention for numerous local and national collegiate-design awards this year.
She credits her experience at The Reporter for preparing her for her latest opportunity.
“I really liked the overall freedom that I had in terms of design,” Garcia said. “I got to make a lot of changes here and there, and it was always a challenge to get the paper from blank pages to print.”
Garcia earned her associate in arts degree in psychology in 2014 while attending the Honors College at Wolfson Campus. She spent the past year cultivating her skills, taking design courses at MDC while working at The Reporter. Garcia said she is taking a break from school to focus on her career, but has plans to further her education in the future.
“[The Reporter] taught me how being in a real newsroom would be like,” Garcia said. “I worked at The Reporter because I loved it. The paper was like my baby.”
