Dark Nights: Metal Provides A Fun Read For Comic Book Fans
In August, DC Comics began its latest event in their comic universe, shaking up their existing story lines. This six-issue series from writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo is called Dark Nights: Metal.
Most comic book fans know these events are usually hit-or-miss and do not provide much in terms of original stories or ideas. Thankfully, after reading the first four issues released so far, I am glad to say that it is a hit.
Dark Nights: Metal feels like a well-written fanfiction that takes place within the DC Universe. In this event we see Batman and the Justice League look for answers for a new, mysterious metal called Nth metal. The fanfiction element comes in when the story develops into the standard “let’s save the multiverse” fare. It seems cliché at first, but with each subsequent issue the action becomes more intense and has its moments of grittiness.
Of course, these stories are only as good as their villains. The bad guys in this series are the most effective characters around.
Each are a different version of Batman from the negative worlds, but with a twist: each one has the powers of a specific Justice League member, meaning one might possess the Flash’s super speed ability while another has control of Green Lantern’s ring.
These characters are fan favorites, with each of them having one-shot issues, giving them their own origin story.
It is a very enjoyable read and worth the almost five dollars costs. With the fifth issue coming out at the end of January, we can only wait to see what will happen to our beloved DC heroes.
For fans worried about story aspects, their fears can be put to rest. Dark Nights:Metal is a fun and interesting take on some of the greatest superheroes to grace the pages of any comic book. Diehard fans should look no further than the latest series from DC Comics.
