Confucius Statue Unveiled At Kendall Campus
A six-foot-tall, 500 pound bronze statue of the Chinese philosopher Confucius was unveiled at Kendall Campus on May 16.
The statue, made in Hong Kong, China, was donated to the College by the Confucius Institute to celebrate the Institute’s fifth anniversary at MDC and in honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. It sits near a walkway that connects building K and building M.
The statue of the famous Chinese philosopher who greatly influenced Chinese culture is supposed to represent the cultural diversity at MDC and raise cultural awareness around campus.
“It helps to introduce Eastern thinking and civilizations, serving as a unique pathway for global engagement for our students and our community,” said Jim Yu, the director of the Confucius Institute at Miami Dade College.
The Confucius Institute allows the College to expand its study abroad programs in China, while also offering Chinese language and cultural classes at MDC campuses.
