New Academic Support Center Opens At Kendall Campus
Kendall Campus opened its doors to its new Academic Support Center at the start of the spring semester.
The new addition to the campus, a five story building—located between building 9000 and parking lot 9— houses all student services departments and the School of Business.
“We are very fortunate to have a new building at Kendall Campus,” said Kendall Campus President, Lourdes Oroza. “The facility will allow us to enhance the services we offer our students and give us the room to accommodate future growth.”
Departments such as admissions, registration, financial aid, advisement, testing, and the bursar’s office, which were originally located in building 3000, can now be found on the first, second and third floors of building R.
The School of Business Administration is located on the fourth floor, and the testing department on the fifth floor.
“All the resources are in one building, so it’s a lot easier for everyone,” said Lis Lominchar, an advertising major at Kendall Campus.
According to Oroza, the building houses 21 classrooms, several meeting and training rooms and the offices of the faculty of the School of Business.
The building’s interior is completely surrounded by glass and steel. Classrooms are equipped with projectors and desks with electrical outlets that allow students using laptops to charge them while taking notes.
“The way it is, open windows, crystal and everything relatively simple makes the building look clean and open “ said freshman Erika Alban. “The windows allow students to look out and see the sun and the sun illuminates the inside.”
Glass windows, doors and walls welcome natural lighting into the building. Colorful couches have been placed throughout the building and waiting areas at the service departments to alleviate the long lines while students wait for assistance.
Construction of the $31.8 million building began on Feb. 18, 2011, taking almost two years to complete.
“It has a very University feel to it which I like,” said Kendall Campus student Hau Lian “The atmosphere itself is very nice, and I always hear, ‘Have you seen the new building? It’s amazing,’ from other students as I pass by.”
