Kendall Campus Evacuated After Bomb Threat, Classes Canceled

The Kendall Campus was evacuated Tuesday evening after an anonymous caller made a bomb threat to the College’s library, according to Juan Mendieta, director of communications at the school.

Classes scheduled for Tuesday night have been canceled, according to Yakir Fernandez, the director of emergency preparedness at Miami Dade College.

In an abundance of caution we are canceling classes @ the Kendall Campus so authorities can sweep the campus. Classes will resume tomorrow,” read a message from the College’s official Twitter account posted at 8 p.m.

According to an email sent by the College, classes are expected to resume tomorrow morning.

Officials moved swiftly to clear the campus after receiving the threat at 5:37 p.m. Students at the campus received a “Bomb Alert” email around 6:30 p.m. saying: “A bomb threat has been received by MDC. If you are on MDC Kendall Campus inside building, prepare immediately for evacuation. Listen for instructions from College officials or local authorities and follow them quickly and carefully.”

Police are on the scene investigating. All roads leading into the campus have been blocked.

A message on the MDC website published Tuesday night read: “If you are on the MDC KENDALL Campus, evacuate immediately. If you are en route, stay away.”
