Have you ever wondered how cool it would be to have a time capsule where you could store all your life and open it anytime, anywhere and with anybody you want?

Since I was aware people actually do them, I desired one. However, having one meant I needed to find an expensive, stainless steel container and a place where I could store it for years, which I didn’t have.

So, I decided to create my own time capsule which has become my favorite leisure activity and my first recommendation to everyone I meet who doesn’t have one: a diary.

I’ve always been a believer that what makes life worth living is the collection of moments we store with us as we go through this journey of ups and downs.

As humans, our way of thinking and the way we act is obtained by what we learn from our experiences. Therefore, it is essential for us to have all kinds of moments: the good ones, the bad ones and also the ones that are not so good or so bad.

I found it amazing how quickly I tend to forget this. So I started writing it down, and it was the best decision I could have ever made. I wrote everything. From the first time I met someone important in my life to the worst nightmare I had.

My favorite part was that I had no guidelines I had to follow—it was my life to write.

Plus, I could go back and relive any event from my past that has made me who I am today, either to laugh or cry at them but always knowing that those moments made me stronger. This is one of the main reasons why a diary is very important in anyone’s life.

As author Barbara Taylor Bradford once wrote: “The past was always there, lived inside of you, and it helped to make who you were. But it had to be placed in perspective. The past could not dominate the future.”

This made me notice that I could use what I wrote as my everyday motivation to keep on living whatever life had in store for me.

Consequently, from my point of view keeping a diary will be the best therapy you will ever need. We all get anxious and sad sometimes, but being able to get your feelings and thoughts out by writing them when you feel no one gets you or no one is willing to listen will make you comprehend that having your own company is enough.

It is the most satisfying and rewarding feeling you will have and it will teach you how to love, take care and always be there for yourself.

Last but not least, it can also be useful as a stress reliever for college essays. A diary will get you in the habit of writing hence it will improve your writing skills and creative potential. You have probably heard this saying: “Practice makes perfect.”

Keep a diary as your most dominant and dynamic support. It made me a more serene and content person just by writing in it  for a minimum of 20 minutes a day.

I assure you it will clear your emotions, ingrain your learning, and give you the opportunity to record your life history without having to  have a huge and loaded box of memories.
